(1) Unhappy now and no vision of the future. This is the worst possible state to be in because you are depressed and have nothing to look forward to.
(2) Happy now but no vision of the future. Many college students, and, in fact, much of society as a whole, tends to fall into this trap: we are happy now because we are partying, drinking, and enjoying temporary pleasures, but we have absolutely no clue how our future is going to unfold. We are living completely in the present moment because it is too challenging for us to envision anything different.
